Neocate Infant
Does this mean her allergy is very severe???
My dd Grace is 11wks now and was recently diagnosed with Milk protein and soya allergies, reflux and eczema…. Shes on Neocate hypoallergenic formula and infant gaviscon, and aqueous cream for the eczema (does nothing at all for it though!) Currently awaitng a dermatologist and paediatrican appt for the eczema and reflux…
Now, this afternoon my elder daughter elizabeth had been eating chocolate buttons and somehow she managed to get a smear of chocolate on Grace’s cheek…… i noticed it a few mins after elizabeth had finsihed her buttons, and wiped it off, thinking no more of it….. until about 30 mins ago when she came up in hives all over the cheek that the chocolate had been on, and theyve spread down onto her neck and back… iv bathed her in oilatum and she has just had a bottle and seems ok… doesnt seem in too much discomfort but im worried now — has anyone else had this before???????? A reaction simply on contact with the allergen??
if your daughter is already allergic to milk protein (casein), then she’s likely to be allergic to milk. my child has anaphylaxis to milk, casein, et al (and is also allergic to soy), and breaks out in the same way that your daughter does when it touches her skin. definitely get your daughter tested for milk allergies. to be cautious, keep her away from anything that has milk in it — see http://kidshealth.org/parent/misc/milkallergy_cutout.html.
Here are some things that I’ve learned over the years about dealing with severe allergies:
*** READ ALL INGREDIENTS. EVERY SINGLE ONE! CHECK FOR MILK. IF YOU CAN’T IDENTIFY THE INGREDIENT, ASSUME THAT IT’S MILK. UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO BET YOUR DAUGHTER’S LIFE THAT MILK ISN’T AN INGREDIENT IN SOMETHING, DON’T TAKE ANY CHANCES.
*** ALWAYS WATCH FOR REACTIONS WHEN FOOD AND DRINKS ARE AROUND — SHE COULD REACT TO AN ALLERGEN IF IT TOUCHES HER OR IF SHE SMELLS IT
*** DON’T BUY HER MEALS FROM FAST FOOD PLACES OR RESTAURANTS
*** ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS CARRY BENADRYL AND EPINEPHRINE WHERE EVER YOUR DAUGHTER GOES (CHECK EXPIRATION DATES!)
